Sparking Improved Governance, Ministry of Culture and TMII to Hold Awards
The Ministry of Culture (Kemenbud) is strengthening the cultural ecosystem at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) through collaboration with the site’s managers. One of the steps being prepared is the organisation of the Pradana Nitya Budaya awards on 1 May 2026 to encourage improvements in the quality of regional pavilion management while accelerating the revitalisation of cultural functions at TMII.
This was conveyed during a strategic discussion between the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Fadli Zon, and the board of directors of PT Bhumi Visatanda Indonesia, the managers of TMII, at the Ministry of Culture’s office. In the meeting, it was mentioned that the awards given last year had proven to have an impact on improving governance, human resource quality, service standards, cultural programmes, physical building management, and cross-sector collaboration.
Fadli emphasised the importance of synergy between the central government and regions to strengthen the function of the pavilions as a national cultural showcase. According to him, the Ministry of Culture is pushing for the revitalisation of regional pavilions so that they truly represent the culture of each province.
He also highlighted the need for reformulating museum financing policies to make them more sustainable. Currently, he said, the government is formulating policies related to the museum ticketing system to maintain operational sustainability.
“Through the ‘Indonesia Raya’ assistance fund programme, the government is also providing support to cultural communities and pavilion managers to develop public space-based programmes. This assistance is programme-oriented and aimed at sustainable activities, not routine operations. Proposal submissions are expected to be structured and coordinated to encourage the creation of sustainable and widely impactful cultural programmes for society,” said Fadli, in a written statement on Friday (17/4/2026).
As part of long-term strengthening, Fadli also conveyed plans to develop human resources through cultural institutions, particularly via education programmes, including the preparation of a postgraduate curriculum focused on culture.
“Plans to establish a Master’s or postgraduate programme in cultural arts at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah will be further discussed in coordination with cultural arts institutions,” Fadli concluded.
On the other hand, Acting Director General of PT Bhumi Visatanda Indonesia, Ratri Paramita, said that a series of preparations had begun since mid-March. These preparations include socialisation, material preparation, as well as selection and assessment processes that have been ongoing since the previous year.
“Various cultural activation programmes continue to be intensified in the Taman Mini area through the ‘Pertamanan Kaya Budaya’ initiative and the launch of the Sampurian programme from West Java,” she explained.
Ratri added that throughout March to April, various activities have been and will be held, ranging from art installations, dance performances from 34 provinces, the ICP Nusantara free ticket programme, kecak performances, immersive rooms themed on Jakarta, music performances, video mapping, to the thematic programme Experience Bali in a Day. According to her, collaborations are also being conducted with several parties, including Sarinah, to support the promotion of regional SMEs and the strengthening of event production.
The Pradana Nitya Budaya awards are expected not only to serve as a form of appreciation but also as the main driver of the cultural ecosystem in the regions. The Ministry of Culture encourages each pavilion to present original programmes drawn from the cultural strengths of their respective regions.
In the discussion, Fadli was accompanied by the Director General of Cultural Protection and Traditions, Restu Gunawan, Special Staff for Law and Cultural Policy, Masyithoh Annisa Ramadhani Alkatiri, and Director of History and Museology, Agus Mulyana. Also present were executives from PT Bhumi Visatanda Indonesia, including Acting Director of Operations Dede Noviardi and Head of Marketing Communication Group, Duhita Anggraeni.
