South Sumatra Police Chief Provides New Homes to Two Elderly Farmers in East OKU
The South Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumsel) is implementing a humane and equitable police programme. South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Sandi Nugroho has provided new residential assistance to two elderly farmers in Ogan Komering Ulu Timur Regency.
According to information received, the handover took place on Monday (20/4/2026) in Margodadi Village, Semendawai Suku III Subdistrict, represented directly by East OKU Police Chief AKBP Adik Listiyono. The two beneficiaries are Suparni (62), a farmer from Margodadi Village, and Jamhir (75), a farmer from Melati Agung Village, East Semendawai Subdistrict.
Jamhir is known to have permanent blindness due to pesticide exposure. Both have lived in limited conditions without decent housing.
The event proceeded solemnly, attended by Forkopimcam representatives, East OKU Police Resort officials, village apparatus, and local residents. The activities included an opening, prayer, speeches, social assistance handover, and a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony for Suparni’s new home. The group then proceeded to inspect Jamhir’s house to ensure it was decent and ready for occupancy.
In addition to housing aid, the East OKU Police Resort distributed social assistance packages to residents from several villages as a form of ongoing care for the surrounding community.
This assistance programme is an implementation of the South Sumatra Police Chief’s policy in presenting a police force that not only focuses on law enforcement but is also actively involved in community social activities. This aligns with the Polri Presisi programme launched by National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, which positions community welfare as part of the institution’s success.
This housing aid is expected to have a significant impact on the recipients’ lives. For Jamhir, who has physical limitations, a decent home becomes a safe and dignified space. For Suparni, this aid symbolises the presence of the state that does not forget the small people.
East OKU Police Chief AKBP Adik Listiyono stated that this activity is a real manifestation of the Polri’s philosophy of service to the community.
“Goodness is not measured by its size, but by sincerity. In line with the message from the South Sumatra Police Chief, have we done good today? This is a real form that Polri is present for the people,” said AKBP Adik Listiyono.
Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations of South Sumatra Regional Police, Kombes Nandang Mu’min Wijaya, emphasised that this activity shows Polri is present and provides real benefits to the community.
“When Polri builds houses for residents in need, that is the true form of the state’s presence. We will continue to deliver social programmes that directly touch community needs,” said Kombes Nandang Mu’min Wijaya.
South Sumatra Regional Police ensures that social assistance programmes like this will continue to be implemented sustainably throughout the region, as part of Polri’s dedication to creating a prosperous, safe, and just society.
