The South Sumatra Police Chief, Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, opened the Pre-Operation Training for the Musi 2026 Firearms Operation. This activity was held as a step to mature the readiness of South Sumatra Police and subordinate resort police personnel in facing the threat of illegal firearm circulation in the South Sumatra region. The activity took place at the South Sumatra Police Headquarters on Thursday (11/6/2026). Also present to accompany the event were the Head of Ops, Director of Intelligence and Security, Director of General Criminal Investigation, Director of Samapta, Commander of the Brimob (Mobile Brigade), Head of ICT, Head of Internal Affairs, Head of Public Relations, and Head of Forensics, as well as the Police Chiefs from the South Sumatra Police’s jurisdictions. Inspector General Sandi affirmed that the presence of illegal firearms in society is a real threat to the security and safety of citizens. According to him, illegal firearms have the potential to trigger disturbances to public order and security, criminal acts, and social conflicts that can endanger the community. ‘Behind every illegal firearm circulating in society, there is a considerable potential for disturbances to public security and safety,’ said Inspector General Sandi. He emphasised that tackling illegal firearms is not only viewed as a law enforcement task but also as part of the Indonesian National Police’s responsibility in protecting people’s lives. Therefore, the Musi 2026 Firearms Operation must be prepared in a mature, structured, and sustainable manner. ‘Tackling illegal firearms is not just a matter of law enforcement, but also part of our duty as guardians of life, custodians of civilisation, and keepers of humanity,’ he asserted. On that occasion, Inspector General Sandi conveyed that in 2025, the South Sumatra Police successfully uncovered 41 cases and secured 302 homemade firearms of various types. This achievement deserves appreciation, but at the same time serves as a reminder that the circulation of illegal firearms remains a serious issue that must be continuously anticipated. ‘To overcome this threat, a maturely, systematically, and sustainably prepared operation is needed as proof that the state is present in the community,’ said the Police Chief. According to him, the Musi 2026 Firearms Operation is a manifestation of the police’s presence in maintaining security, enforcing the law, and protecting the public from the threat of illegal firearms. The operation is also directed to create a sense of public security, so that government activities, development, and citizens’ lives can run well. ‘This Musi 2026 Firearms Operation is a manifestation of the Indonesian National Police’s presence in maintaining security, enforcing the law, and protecting the public from the threat of illegal firearms,’ he said. Inspector General Sandi stressed that the operation must be carried out professionally, measurably, humanely, and responsibly. The success of the operation, he said, is determined not only by personnel strength but also by the readiness, capability, sensitivity, and creativity of members in the field. ‘This operation must be carried out professionally, measurably, humanely, and responsibly. The success of this operation is determined by the readiness, capability, sensitivity, and creativity of every personnel member in carrying out duties in the field,’ he explained. He highlighted the fairly high level of vulnerability regarding illegal firearms in South Sumatra. This condition demands that the South Sumatra Police and its police station ranks be able to map out operational targets accurately, follow up on information quickly, and strengthen cross-functional coordination. He also touched on several prominent incidents related to the use of illegal firearms in the South Sumatra region. According to him, this is a reminder that handling illegal firearms must be done seriously, not only in the context of the operation but also as a follow-up to guarantee the community’s sense of security. ‘Not only for the firearm operation itself, but also the follow-up to be able to guarantee the community’s feeling of safety within the environment of South Sumatra Province,’ he emphasised. In his directives to the training participants, Inspector General Sandi asked all personnel to follow the series of exercises seriously. He also stressed the importance of mastering the material, synergy between functions, solidarity, integrity, and the confidentiality of operational information. ‘Maintain integrity, avoid abuse of authority, and do not provide operational information to unauthorised parties,’ he said. Additionally, the Police Chief asked all personnel to firmly uphold the principles of hard work, smart work, thorough work, and sincere work so that the Musi 2026 Firearms Operation can run effectively, efficiently, on target, and provide optimal results for the community. ‘Uphold the principles of hard work, smart work, thorough work, and sincere work, so that the operation can run effectively and efficiently, on target, and provide optimal results for the community,’ he said. He expressed hope that the Musi 2026 Firearms Pre-Operation training becomes a space to synchronise steps, strengthen preparations, and build a shared commitment among all South Sumatra Police ranks in safeguarding the security of Bumi Sriwijaya. ‘Instil the spirit of Nyago Bumi Sriwijaya Aman dan Baik (Guard Sriwijaya Land: Safe and Good), which is to be present quickly, precisely, humanely, and responsibly in maintaining the security of the community in South Sumatra,’ said the Police Chief. With the opening of the Pre-Operation Training for the Musi 2026 Firearms Operation, the South Sumatra Police affirmed its commitment to providing no space for the circulation of illegal firearms. This effort is not only aimed at taking action against criminals but also ensuring that the community directly feels the presence of the police in maintaining security, order, and a sense of safety across the entire South Sumatra region.
