Questioning teachers
Questioning teachers
From Koran Tempo
Parents of PGRI1 high school students in Bekasi have
complained about fees for private lessons unilaterally imposed by
the school's teachers. The city council and education office have
also prohibited teachers from obliging students to attend such
lessons.
The Ministry of National Education should deal with this issue
seriously. During the past few years, the mentality of teachers,
principals and managers at some schools has been questionable.
Sometimes when teaching mathematics, teachers do not explain
the lessons properly and students' exam results are poor, forcing
them to join extra courses. This continues despite parents'
complaints to school principals and many parents suspect teachers
and principals of collusion.
Other teachers are intelligent graduates of popular
universities who fail to transfer their knowledge to students
effectively. It is necessary for the ministry to conduct
performance evaluations of teachers and school principals.
