Pemalang, Central Java — Indonesia’s Ministry of Public Works (PU) is accelerating preservation work on the Pemalang–Pekalongan National Road section to ensure the road is sound, safe, and comfortable for the public to travel before the 2026 Eid holiday period.

Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo emphasised that this section is an important part of the strategic North Coast Java corridor with high vehicle mobility, and must therefore be ready before the peak migration surge.

“The Pemalang–Pekalongan section must be ensured to be in sound and safe condition for the public before Eid. This acceleration represents the government’s commitment to providing reliable infrastructure services, particularly on high-mobility routes like the North Coast corridor,” Dody said in Pemalang, Central Java, on Saturday (28 February 2026).

Preservation work encompasses several priority segments focused on improving road pavement structure to increase durability and driving comfort.

Several strategic points are prioritised for completion before Eid to avoid disrupting traffic flow.

The head of the Central Java–DIY Regional Road Implementation Centre (BBPJN), Moch Iqbal Tamher, reported that physical work progress has reached 78.89 per cent, exceeding the target of 37.66 per cent.

The handling method is conducted through two types of work. The first type is carried out without demolition of existing pavement, with the addition of new construction comprising AC-BC of minimum 3 centimetre thickness and concrete of fs’45 strength with 31 centimetre thickness, with a curing period of 3–7 days.

The second type involves demolition of existing pavement, followed by Class A aggregate work of 20 centimetre thickness, lean concrete of 10 centimetre thickness, and fs’45 concrete of 31 centimetre thickness, with a curing period of 3–7 days to strengthen the overall road structure.

In addition to reconstruction work, preservation also includes routine maintenance comprising hot asphalt mixture repairs and vegetation control along the route to maintain road user safety and comfort.

Through this preservation initiative, the Ministry of Public Works ensures that inter-regional connectivity in Central Java remains intact and supports the smooth flow of the Eid exodus on the strategic North Coast Java corridor.
