Prabowo Promises Compensation for Train Collision Victims
President Prabowo Subianto has guaranteed that victims of the collision between the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek and a KRL train will receive compensation. The incident, which occurred on Monday, 27 April 2026, has so far recorded 14 fatalities and 84 injuries.
According to Prabowo, every victim will receive compensation, though the amount has not yet been specified. “There will be, everyone will get compensation,” said the Chairman of the Gerindra Party while visiting the accident victims at Chasbullah Abdulmadjid Regional General Hospital (RSUD) in Bekasi City, West Java, on Tuesday morning, 28 April 2026, as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat’s statement.
Prabowo also conveyed condolences to the victims. “We will soon conduct an investigation into how the incident happened,” said the former Minister of Defence.
Prabowo stated that dozens of victims are still undergoing treatment at the RSUD, although some have already been discharged. He claimed they have been well handled by hospital staff. “Everything has been taken care of,” he said.
The number of victims in the collision between the Argo Bromo Anggrek train on the Gambir–Surabaya Pasar Turi route and the Commuter Line or Electric Rail Train (KRL) on the Kampung Bandan-Cikarang route continues to rise. The incident occurred precisely at Bekasi Timur Station in Bekasi City on Monday, 27 April 2026, around 20:57 WIB.
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or PT KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin stated that the number of fatalities from the accident has increased to 14 people. “The deceased victims have been taken to Kramat Jati Police Hospital for further identification processes,” Bobby said in his statement on Tuesday, 28 April 2026.
Meanwhile, the number of injured victims, both minor and severe, has also increased to 84 people. All victims have been evacuated to nearby health facilities for further medical treatment.
All deceased and injured victims are known to be passengers from the KRL train. Meanwhile, the 240 passengers on the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek were all successfully evacuated in safe condition.
The incident began when the KRL train was stopped on track 1 at Bekasi Timur Station. The train was stopped due to a disruption ahead of them from the opposite direction, where there was a collision between a train and a taxi.
Shortly afterwards, the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek was seen speeding from behind and directly ramming into the body of that train. The collision caused the body of the Commuter Line train, particularly the women’s carriage, to be crushed.
