JAKARTA - Deputy Agriculture Minister Sudaryono, alias Mas Dar, stated that President Prabowo’s distribution of 1,098 cattle for kurban has been a longstanding practice since previous administrations.

Mas Dar said former President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), who served as Indonesia’s seventh president before Prabowo, also provided kurban assistance to various regions.

‘That’s not just under President Prabowo; even during previous administrations, President Jokowi also provided cattle assistance to many places – it’s a common occurrence,’ Sudaryono said after monitoring the kurban ceremony at the Ministry of Agriculture in Jakarta on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.

He added that the programme should be well-received as it brings joy to communities across the country.

The kurban assistance is distributed to mosques, villages, and Islamic boarding schools nationwide.

The average weight of the presidential-donated cattle exceeds 800 kilograms per head.

A close associate of Prabowo noted that one particular bull required special handling when unloaded from the truck due to its size.

‘Because it’s so large, special sand was prepared for when it stepped down from the truck. If not handled correctly upon landing, its legs could break from the weight – it’s that heavy,’ Mas Dar explained.

He said the presidential kurban programme has revitalised local farmers and boosted morale.

‘The cattle are massive. Some weigh over a tonne, 1.2 tonnes, and the record is nearly 1.5 tonnes,’ he added.

Meanwhile, Director General of Livestock and Animal Health at the Ministry of Agriculture, Agung Suganda, confirmed that presidential kurban assistance is distributed annually.

In 2025, the Presidential Palace distributed 981 sacrificial cattle to various regions across Indonesia.
