Prabowo Accelerates Energy Transition, Targets 100 Gigawatts of Solar Power and Optimises Geothermal Resources
President Prabowo Subianto has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accelerating the transformation of the national energy sector amid global dynamics demanding energy resilience and self-sufficiency.
The Head of State stated that the government will implement a national electrification programme through the development of renewable energy, particularly solar and geothermal power.
In his remarks at the first anniversary celebration of Danantara Indonesia, held at Wisma Danantara on Wednesday, 11 March 2026, the Head of State expressed his conviction that Indonesia possesses numerous alternative energy sources that can be developed to address future challenges.
“Renewable energy from solar power—in the shortest possible timeframe, we will build 100 gigawatts. This is already my instruction, already my decision, and we will prove to the world that we are faster and more effective in this regard,” said Prabowo.
According to Prabowo, compared to many other nations facing more difficult conditions, Indonesia actually possesses substantial natural resource wealth as capital to strengthen national energy resilience.
The Head of State explained that Indonesia has significant potential from various energy sources, ranging from palm oil, cassava, maize, and sugarcane, which can be processed into fuel.
“This compels us to accelerate, we must speed up. We have many alternatives. We are confident that we can address this issue. Many nations face more difficult circumstances than us. We have abundant palm oil. We will have sufficient cassava. We can obtain fuel from maize and sugarcane. We have very large geothermal resources. If I am not mistaken, we have the second-largest reserves in the world that have not been fully exploited,” he added.
The Head of State further emphasised that the acceleration of renewable energy development represents Indonesia’s serious commitment to demonstrating to the world that the Indonesian nation is capable of moving quickly and effectively in addressing global challenges.
With directed and sustainable energy transformation, Indonesia is expected not only to achieve energy independence, but also to become one of the important powers in the map of the world’s future energy landscape.
