PT PLN (Persero)’s President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, has once again achieved a milestone by receiving the Green Leadership PROPER award at the 2025 PROPER Environmental Awards organised by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

This marks the third time he has received this accolade, reinforcing the consistency of his leadership in promoting green transformation within PLN.

Under Darmawan’s guidance, PLN’s environmental performance has shown positive results. Throughout 2025, PLN secured 11 Gold PROPER awards and 35 Green PROPER awards in the environmental management performance assessment.

This achievement reflects the company’s success in integrating sustainability principles into its business operations.

The award was personally presented by the Minister of Environment and Forestry/Head of the Environmental Control Agency, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, who commended the company leaders for their contributions to promoting sustainable business practices.

“To the company leaders and CEOs, we extend our extraordinary thanks. The compliance efforts you have undertaken contribute seriously to building many aspects, from the efficiency of our resources, prevention of pollution, and various activities that build the community’s economy directly or indirectly,” Hanif stated in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/4/2026).

According to Hanif, PROPER serves as a compass guiding the business world in implementing sustainable business practices based on green economy principles. This awarding ceremony also encourages industrial performance to exceed compliance standards with environmental regulations.

“Today is certainly a happy day for us all. Those present before me are truly figures who provide direction for national environmental living. Once again, thank you,” he explained.

On the same occasion, Darmawan Prasodjo expressed gratitude for the award given to the company. He emphasised that over the past five years, PLN has continuously accelerated the clean energy transition through the development of new renewable energy (EBT), emissions reduction, and economically valuable waste processing.

“We convey our thanks to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry for the award given. For PLN, PROPER is not merely compliance, but an acceleration of transformation. Our commitment is to provide reliable electricity that adds value to the environment and welfare,” Darmawan said.

Looking ahead, he stated that PLN will continue to strengthen the implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, accelerate the Net Zero Emissions target for 2060, improve operational efficiency, and expand community empowerment programmes.

“We continue to promote green technology innovation, global collaboration, and make sustainability a work culture,” he affirmed.

PROPER represents a momentum for transformation from mere compliance to leading in the energy transition. Now, PLN’s task is not only to provide reliable electricity but also to ensure that electricity becomes cleaner, environmentally friendly, and adds value to community life.

As part of this commitment, PLN continues to implement various greenhouse gas emissions reduction initiatives, from decarbonisation to EBT power plant development. From 2021 to 2025, PLN successfully increased the emissions reduction figure from 12.9 million tons of CO2 to 51.1 million tons of CO2.

The company also recorded progress in new renewable energy development, reaching around 9.4 gigawatts (GW) in 2025. In addition, PLN expanded gas-based power plants with production reaching 33.7 terawatt hours (TWh) in 2025.

As one of the decarbonisation initiatives, since 2023 PLN has developed hydrogen by operating Indonesia’s first Green Hydrogen Plant (GHP) at the Muara Karang Gas and Steam Power Plant (PLTGU), Jakarta.

PLN also pioneered the introduction of Southeast Asia’s first GHP utilising geothermal energy, located at the Kamojang Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) in West Java in 2024.

Currently, excess hydrogen production at PLN power plants, which was previously unused, is being developed into GHPs spread across 22 locations throughout Indonesia with a total capacity of 203 tons per year.

In the future, the utilisation of green hydrogen can be further optimised as co-firing for Steam Power Plants (PLTU), environmentally friendly transportation fuel, and industrial sector needs.

“It is hoped that the initiatives we are running will not only have a positive impact on environmental conservation but also provide a multiplier effect by creating jobs, strengthening the local economy, and supporting national infrastructure development,” Darmawan concluded.
