Philips' markets new handset

JAKARTA (JP): Dutch telecommunications equipment maker Philips Consumer Communications, introduced its new cellular handset yesterday which offers voice dial.

The handset, dubbed Spark, is part of Philips' new series of Global System for Mobile (GSM) terminals after Fizz, which was introduced last year.

Spark is 139 millimeters high, 56 mm long, 18 mm wide and weighs 139 grams. Talk-time is 10 hours and standby 350 hours.

The Indonesian digital cellular handset market is controlled by Sweden's Ericsson, Germany's Siemens, the United States' Motorola and Finland's Nokia.

Philips's manager in Indonesia, Husni Erwinn, said the company would launch a smaller GSM handset, called Genie, later this year.

Genie weighs 96 grams and is one of the smallest and lightest GSM terminals along with Motorola's StarTac. (icn)
