Pertamina Strengthens Strategic Alliance to Drive Digital Innovation in Upstream Sector
PT Pertamina (Persero) continues to strengthen national energy resilience by expanding global collaborations to drive performance improvements in the upstream oil and gas sector. As part of its strategic agenda in Houston, United States, Pertamina and Halliburton are aligning the use of technology to enhance upstream operational performance.
This alignment follows up on the Memorandum of Understanding signed in February between PT Pertamina (Persero) and Halliburton, focusing on priority areas of cooperation and developing more concrete implementation pathways.
Both parties are focusing on two priority areas: optimising the economics of multistage fracturing (MSF) and accelerating the monetisation of Indonesia’s non-conventional oil and gas resources by utilising Halliburton’s operational experience in the United States.
Pertamina’s Deputy Chief Executive, Oki Muraza, stated that proven digital technology and field-tested execution models are key to unlocking the potential of complex reservoirs in Indonesia.
“Pertamina is focused on applying the right technology and operational models to improve upstream performance. Through collaboration with global technology leaders like Halliburton, we aim to optimise the economics of MSF and accelerate the development of non-conventional resources in Indonesia,” he said, quoted on Thursday (7/5/2026).
From Halliburton’s side, Senior Vice President of Production Enhancement, Eric Holley, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Pertamina’s production increases.
“Halliburton is strongly committed to collaborating with Pertamina to enhance Indonesia’s oil and gas production. We are ready to bring our best capabilities in fracturing and production enhancement to support Pertamina in monetising low-quality reservoirs through MSF, while contributing more broadly to the development of Indonesia’s non-conventional resources ecosystem,” he said.
As a continuation of the Memorandum of Understanding, Pertamina and Halliburton are also exploring several future cooperation initiatives. These include the use of agentic AI for subsurface interpretation and reservoir modelling, development of Unconventional Early Development Concept (EDC) with a focus on optimising fracturing design, Multi-Lateral Drilling and Completion, Integrated Asset Management for mature fields, and various other technology-based programmes to support efficiency and upstream production increases.
This collaboration is expected to support the implementation of pilot programmes, technology transfer, and capacity development in drilling, well completion, production optimisation, and digital-based upstream operations.
Pertamina reaffirms its commitment to continue driving structured collaborations with Halliburton to improve efficiency, strengthen technical capabilities, and support Indonesia’s long-term energy resilience.
