National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo officially implemented a national one-way traffic engineering scheme to ease congestion during the peak Lebaran return period in 2026. The inauguration of the national one-way scheme, marked by a flag-off ceremony, took place at the Kalikangkung Toll Gate in Semarang on Tuesday (24/3) at 14.25 WIB.

This policy was enacted amid the high volume of vehicles departing Jakarta via toll roads. As of 24 March 2026, approximately 2,380,401 vehicles had passed through. During a press conference, the National Police Chief stated that the national one-way traffic engineering would be applied from KM 414 GT Kalikangkung to KM 70 Cikampek.

“Previously, one-way operations were implemented in stages, and this afternoon we are applying the national one-way to alleviate density during the peak return flow,” said the National Police Chief.

At the event, the National Police Chief was accompanied by several officials, including the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, the Minister of Transportation, the Minister of Health, the Head of the Toll Road Business Entity, the President Director of PT Jasa Marga, and other related officials. Also present were the Governor of Central Java and the Central Java Police Chief.

Before the launch began, the National Police Chief took the opportunity to greet the holiday returnees queuing at the toll gate. On that occasion, he distributed hundreds of aid packages containing snacks, health supplies, and children’s toys to help reduce boredom during the journey.

The National Police Chief emphasised that safety must be the top priority during the return flow. He urged the public not to push themselves if feeling fatigued.

“For the public undertaking return journeys, please continue to maintain security and safety. Utilise the facilities provided, such as rest areas, security posts, and integrated posts. If tired, please rest and do not force yourself,” he stressed.

Additionally, the public was encouraged to use other modes of transportation, such as trains, to reduce density on land routes.

The Indonesian National Police ensured that all personnel along toll roads and arterial routes remained fully alert to provide optimal service to the public. This step is part of the commitment to realising this year’s return slogan: “Safe Return, Happy Family.”
