Jakarta (ANTARA) - Perumda Pasar Jaya has deployed 33 rubbish transport trucks to handle the mountain of waste at the Kramat Jati Main Market in East Jakarta.

“We have transported the waste using 33 trucks, consisting of 20 vehicles yesterday (Tuesday, 31 March) and 13 vehicles today,” said Head of Public Relations Division of Perumda Pasar Jaya, Imam Kurniawan, when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He emphasised that Perumda Pasar Jaya is committed to accelerating waste handling so that residents’ activities are not disrupted.

In addition, this commitment also aims to maintain the smooth operation of the market and the comfort of all visitors and traders at the Kramat Jati Main Market.

Moreover, the estimated current waste volume is approximately 6,970 tonnes, equivalent to 410 trucks.

“As an acceleration step, since Friday (27/3) until today, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Environment Agency and Perumda Pasar Jaya have coordinated and worked together to resolve waste handling at the Kramat Jati Main Market,” said Imam.

In addition, he mentioned that the waste cleaning process will continue until conditions in the area return to normal.

“We have taken regulatory measures and field inspections to ensure that the waste disposal flow remains under control,” said Imam.

“We will resolve the waste problem at the Kramat Jati Main Market as soon as possible,” stressed Topik.

He revealed that in the future, waste management at the Kramat Jati Main Market will be handled by a third party.

However, he does not yet know the details of the timing and technical implementation because it requires reviewing the contents of the agreement first.

“That in the future there will indeed be a third party to manage it, later I will ask the technical details to the division handling waste, yes,” said Topik.

Previously, the East Jakarta Environment Sub-Department (Sudin LH) continued its assistance by deploying 13 rubbish transport truck units to reduce the piling waste at the Kramat Jati Main Market.

“Up to today, our vehicles are still there helping. Today, we deployed 13 rubbish transport trucks,” said Head of Sudin LH East Jakarta, Julius Monangta, in Pulo Gebang, East Jakarta, on Monday (30/3).

He emphasised that assistance from Sudin LH East Jakarta is not limited to a specific time but will continue until the waste conditions at the location are properly handled.

Observations at the site show a waste mountain approximately 6 metres high still clearly visible. The rotten smell from vegetable, fruit, and various other waste is mixed and can be smelled from afar.

At the edge of the waste mountain, heavy vehicles are present to scoop the waste to prevent it from scattering onto the roads.

Due to the waste mountain, the wall directly behind the pile, approximately six metres high, has collapsed.

Concrete materials and support poles are seen collapsed, with some entering the waterway below.

Not only that, waste in the form of vegetable and fruit residues at the Temporary Disposal Site (TPS) also appears to have been carried into the waterway. This condition has the potential to clog water flow and worsen the environmental situation.

Meanwhile, the area behind the TPS is known as vacant land used by residents and as a playground for children. The footpath near the waste mountain is also a daily access route for residents.
