Aceh’s emergency response efforts are now concluded, with the priority now shifting to the restoration of infrastructure and housing damaged by the disaster.

Nagan Raya (ANTARA) - Teuku Zulkarnaini, a member of Parliament’s Commission VII representing Aceh, has urged the central government to accelerate the development of infrastructure and housing for residents damaged by the flash flood that struck Aceh on 25 November 2025.

“The emergency response phase in Aceh is now complete; what is needed now is the restoration of infrastructure and housing,” Zulkarnaini told reporters in Nagan Raya on Monday.

He noted that the flash flood damage in Nagan Raya district has caused severe destruction and loss of homes in one sub-district - Beutong Ateuh Banggalang. Additional damage has affected communities in the sub-districts of Darul Makmur, Tadu Raya, and Tripa Makmur, where infrastructure is similarly damaged and requires maximum intervention from the central government.

“We all know that local government finances are extremely limited and cannot manage disaster infrastructure repairs,” he stated.

Whilst infrastructure and housing reconstruction funding should come from the central government, Zulkarnaini emphasised that basic planning must originate from the local level. “The local government better understands the detailed damage from the disaster, so we hope the government will quickly rebuild damaged facilities in Aceh, including in Nagan Raya district, which has suffered severe damage,” he said.

Previously, Nagan Raya district government reported that the flash flood damage reached a value of over 1.1 trillion rupiah. Social sector damage amounted to over 75.9 billion rupiah, with cross-sector damage reaching over 39.6 billion rupiah.

The district reported that 25,608 people from 8,325 households were affected by the flash flood, with three people missing and one death. Numerous public facilities and infrastructure sustained light to severe damage, including 29 government offices, three places of worship, and 12 traditional Islamic schools. Additionally, 46 schools and four health facilities were damaged, along with seven road sections and three bridges that collapsed.

A total of 1,807 houses were affected, comprising 487 severely damaged houses, 283 moderately damaged houses, and 1,043 lightly damaged houses.
