Ombudsman Ready to Fully Oversee 2026 School Admission System
The Indonesian Ombudsman has confirmed its readiness to fully oversee the implementation of the 2026 School Admission System (SPMB).
“Ombudsman will monitor three phases: pre-implementation, implementation, and post-implementation,” said Ombudsman member Nuzran Joher Nuzran in a statement on Saturday in Jakarta.
He stated that the Ombudsman contributes according to its mandate through annual oversight.
Nuzran noted that in 2025, the Ombudsman received 194 public complaints related to SPMB.
As part of systemic improvements, the Ombudsman has submitted recommendations and improvement suggestions to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen), the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), and local governments to enhance SPMB governance.
Most recently, the Ombudsman’s commitment to SPMB oversight was formalised through the signing of a Joint Commitment for the 2026/2027 School Year on Thursday, 21 May in Jakarta.
The agreement was signed by Nuzran alongside Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti and various other ministries and state agencies.
The signing marks a strategic multi-agency step to ensure SPMB is conducted objectively, transparently, accountably, fairly, and without discrimination.
Signatories include Commission X of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI), the Presidential Staff Office, the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (PMK), Kemendagri, the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag), the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos), and the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA).
Additionally, the agreement was signed by the Government Communication Agency (Bakom RI), the Indonesian National Armed Forces Headquarters (Mabes TNI), the National Police (Polri), the Attorney General’s Office, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), and the National Disability Commission (KND).
During the event, Nuzran praised Kemendikdasmen for initiating the joint commitment.
He stated that the move reflects a collective understanding among state institutions to achieve more inclusive SPMB implementation.
“This is a significant step forward where collective understanding among state institutions has been translated into a unified effort to implement the 2026 SPMB in an inclusive, transparent, accountable, and non-discriminatory manner,” he said.
Minister Abdul Mu’ti added that the involvement of multiple agencies in the commitment demonstrates strong support for creating a better school admission system.
“The presence of all of you is proof of personal and institutional support to ensure SPMB runs smoothly. Let’s implement it together,” he said.
