Mataram - The Governor of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, has prepared a budget for additional income of at least Rp500,000 for 1,759 teachers holding the status of Part-Time Government Contract Employees (PPPK-PW) on the occasion of National Education Day 2026.

“Specifically for PPPK-PW teachers whose income depends on teaching hours, we are striving amid fiscal limitations to provide better welfare,” said Iqbal at the National Education Day commemoration ceremony at the field of the NTB Education, Youth, and Sports Office in Mataram on Saturday.

“This is a form of appreciation and attention from the NTB Provincial Government (Pemprov) to teachers with PPPK-PW status,” he added.

The NTB Governor emphasised that the Education, Youth, and Sports Office (Dinas Dikpora), as the main education authority, focuses on human development rather than just physical infrastructure to improve education quality.

“Education quality means the office, school principals, and teachers must start thinking about ensuring all children have access to education. Ensuring no child drops out of school, ensuring the quality of teaching materials and teacher quality,” he stated.

At the National Education Day commemoration ceremony, the NTB Governor also conveyed the national message on basic and secondary education within five national strategic policies, namely the revitalisation of educational units and digitalisation, fulfilling teacher qualifications and competencies as role models and welfare in the form of scholarships for teachers’ higher education.

Additionally, strengthening character education through school culture and environment, learning quality through literacy and numeracy movements in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and academic ability tests, including sports and arts, as well as policies for accessible, affordable, and flexible education services for various causes of school dropouts with one-roof schools, distance learning, learning communities, and open schools.

To realise quality education, four education ecosystems from schools, families, communities, and media are integrated into regulations and policies.

At the commemoration ceremony, the NTB Governor also presented the Satya Lencana Karyasatya award to three educators: Siti Nurhani from SMA Negeri 5 Mataram, Kamtono from SLB Negeri 1 Mataram, and Ahmad Quroni from SMK Negeri 1 Mataram.
