Nine districts in Tangerang flooded, deepest water reaches 1.5 metres
Intense rainfall since Saturday until Sunday morning has triggered widespread flooding across Tangerang City in Banten Province, with nine districts affected and water depths ranging from 40 centimetres to a maximum of 1.5 metres.
Kepala Pelaksana BPBD Kota Tangerang, Mahdiar, indicated that extreme weather was the main cause of flooding in residents’ homes and several major roads. ‘The heavy rain that continued from yesterday through Sunday morning fell without pause, resulting in floods and puddles in several locations,’ Mahdiar said when contacted in Tangerang on Sunday (8/3).
Periuk District recorded the most significant impact, with water at Alamanda Bridge measured at 1.5 metres. Floods also inundated Jalan Utama Mutiara Pluit, Jalan Utama Danau Situ Bulakan, and Jalan Duta Perum Taman Cibodas.
Some residents affected began to be evacuated to several shelters, including RPH and Mushola Petir Cipondoh, Masjid Ma’arif Petir, and GOR Total Persada. BPBD and related agencies continued to stand by to anticipate rising water levels if rain returns.
‘We continue to evacuate residents to shelters for safety. Meanwhile staff from the Dinas PUPR are working on the response,’ Mahdiar concluded.
As of this report, on-site personnel were still undertaking water pumping at strategic inundation points to accelerate the drainage of floodwater from main access routes.
