New Arrivals to Jakarta Reach 1,776 by 1 April 2026, Dominated by Working-Age Individuals
Urban migration to Jakarta following the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday is beginning to show. The Jakarta Provincial Population and Civil Registration Office (Dukcapil) has recorded 1,776 new arrivals entering by 1 April 2026, with a relatively balanced composition between men and women, though still dominated by men.
“With a composition of 891 men (50.17 percent) and 885 women (49.83 percent),” said the Head of the Jakarta Provincial Dukcapil, Denny Wahyu Haryanto, in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday (2/4).
From a demographic perspective, the majority of arrivals are in the productive age range of 15 to 64 years, accounting for 79.34 percent, indicating that population movement to the capital continues to be driven by work needs and economic opportunities after the Eid period.
To anticipate the surge in urbanisation, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) is intensifying outreach as well as door-to-door services for registering arrivals. This programme runs from 1 April to 30 April 2026 and covers all Administrative City areas up to the Thousand Islands Administrative Regency.
These steps are taken to ensure that population administration remains orderly. Pemprov DKI Jakarta emphasises that all arrivals, whether residing permanently or temporarily, must be recorded in the population administration system.
This obligation refers to Law No. 23 of 2006 on Population Administration, which has been updated through Law No. 24 of 2013. These regulations require every citizen to report population events such as moves or arrivals, as well as significant events like births, deaths, and marriages, to the relevant agencies or Dukcapil.
Accurate registration is considered an important foundation in public policy planning. Such data serves as the basis for formulating social and economic policies, as well as improving the quality of public services.
“Good population management starts with accurate data. Therefore, registering arrivals becomes a primary instrument in maintaining balance between urbanisation dynamics and the city’s service capacity,” said Denny.
In addition, every arrival in the DKI Jakarta area is required to report to the local RT/RW administrators no later than 1x24 hours since arrival. This provision is stipulated in the Regional Secretary’s Circular No. SE/14/2026, which regulates appeals to maintain security, peace, and public order during the celebration of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H/2026 AD.
To facilitate the registration process, DKI Jakarta’s Dukcapil also provides a digital platform through the citizen data application, which can be accessed by RT/RW administrators. This system is expected to accelerate and improve the accuracy of recording arrivals in every administrative area of Jakarta.
