Negotiation Results with Russia: Bahlil Ensures Indonesia Secures Oil and LPG Supply
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, conducted negotiations for the purchase of crude oil and LPG from Russia during his meeting with Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev in Russia. “Alhamdulillah, what has been agreed upon has yielded quite good results, where we can increase our crude oil reserves,” Bahlil stated in his remarks on Tuesday, 14 April 2026. “In addition, we will also be able to obtain LPG,” he added. Russia expressed its readiness to support Indonesia’s energy resilience, including supplies of oil, natural gas, and storage. The meeting was also attended by representatives from several Russian energy companies, including Rosneft, Ruschem, Zarubezhneft, and Lukoil. Bahlil explained that the cooperation is being explored through intergovernmental or Government-to-Government (G2G) schemes as well as business-to-business (B2B). It is hoped that both approaches can provide certainty regarding the availability of national energy reserves, particularly for crude oil and LPG in Indonesia. On the other hand, Bahlil conveyed that Indonesia is open to expanding the scope of collaboration with Russia, including the development of crude storage, long-term supplies of crude oil and LPG, nuclear exploration, and cooperation in the minerals sector. “We want all of this to truly provide certainty for national energy resilience,” Bahlil said. He assessed that the outcome of the meeting gives a positive signal for strengthening national energy resilience amid uncertain global dynamics. Bahlil views the partnership with Russia as an important option, given the country’s substantial energy production capacity and its experience in the oil and gas industry. “Once again, I am pleased today because of the directive from President Prabowo to follow through thoroughly. And alhamdulillah, once again I say that insyaallah we can achieve good results,” he stated. In this bilateral meeting, Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev expressed readiness to assist Indonesia in strengthening its energy resilience. “As a strategic partner, we are ready to collaborate, especially in the provision of oil and gas, storage, or electricity in this case nuclear power plants,” he said.
