National Nutrition Agency Requires Nutrition Service Units to Use Social Media for Public Education
The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has mandated all Nutrition Service Fulfilment Units (SPPG) throughout the country to use social media as a platform for public education regarding balanced nutrition and healthy eating patterns.
Speaking in Palembang on Saturday, Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency Sony Sanjaya stated that this policy has been implemented as part of efforts to expand nutritional literacy amongst the public and strengthen programme transparency at the regional level.
He noted that social media has broad reach and is effective for conveying accurate, timely information that is easily understood by the public.
“SPPG units throughout all regions are asked to actively utilise digital platforms to provide continuous, data-driven education. For example, today’s free nutritious meals menu that will be distributed to schools should be made available so the public can know about it,” he said.
According to him, social media utilisation should not be limited to activity announcements, but must also include educational content such as balanced nutrition guidelines and the importance of protein consumption.
Such content is expected to be packaged creatively to appeal to various groups, including young people.
Through optimisation of social media by SPPG units, the BGN hopes that efforts to improve the nutritional status of society can proceed more extensively and in an integrated manner. This policy also represents a strategic step in supporting the development of a healthy and high-quality human workforce.
