National Human Rights Commission Suspects Dozens Involved in Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) suspects that a dozen or more people are involved in the case of the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS.
Komnas HAM Commissioner Saurlin Siagian stated that this suspicion is based on identifications up to Wednesday (8/4/2026).
“As of today, we have indications of more than four (people involved in the acid attack on Andrie Yunus). A dozen,” said Saurlin at the Komnas HAM office in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday.
He emphasised that Komnas HAM is continuing to gather information regarding the possible involvement of other parties beyond the four TNI soldiers suspected in the acid attack on Andrie Yunus.
“Our focus is on trying to find information related to the involvement of other parties besides the four individuals who have already been named as suspects,” Saurlin explained.
“We are trying to investigate that to see the possibility of judicial proceedings outside of military courts,” he added.
The acid attack incident on Andrie Yunus occurred on Thursday night (12/3/2026).
KontraS Working Body Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya explained that the incident began after Andrie finished recording a podcast at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation in Menteng.
“The recording session ended around 23:00 WIB,” said Dimas.
Local residents then provided assistance. The perpetrator fled towards Jalan Salemba Raya.
Injured, Andrie briefly returned to his residence before being taken to RSCM for medical treatment in the early hours of Friday (13/3/2026).
Based on the medical team’s examination, Andrie Yunus suffered injuries to his right eye and 20 per cent burns to his body due to the acid attack.
Subsequently, four soldiers from the TNI’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) were detained in connection with the alleged involvement in the incident. They are Captain NDP, Lieutenant SL, Lieutenant BHW, and Sergeant ES.
This development also led to the resignation of the TNI BAIS Head, Yudi Abrimantyo, as a form of accountability.
The four individuals were then named as suspects in the alleged acid attack case on Andrie Yunus on 18 March 2026.
The suspects are charged under Article 467 of the Criminal Code for planned assault, with a minimum prison sentence of four years and a maximum of seven years.
