MUI Reminds Islamic Social Organisation Leaders Not to Cause Disturbances, Likens Them to Bus Drivers
The General Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Anwar Iskandar, has called on all Islamic social organisations to safeguard national stability. He urged them to guard their speech and actions to prevent causing disturbances in society.
This was conveyed by KH Anwar during the national gathering of Islamic social organisations and the MUI’s Eid al-Fitr 1447H halal bihalal event, held at the Sultan Hotel in Jakarta on Wednesday (15/4/2026). Anwar stated that at present, President Prabowo Subianto, along with his cabinet, is striving to transform Indonesia into an advanced, prosperous, and welfare-oriented nation.
“Our duty as Islamic community leaders is to provide a situation that allows the country’s leaders to build in peace, build well, and build constructively. That is what is needed,” said KH Anwar.
He reminded the leaders of Islamic social organisations of their significant influence within society. Therefore, he said, they must be more prudent in addressing various national issues.
“We must be careful; we are like bus drivers, not racing drivers. If a racing driver drives too fast and crashes, only he dies. But if a bus driver has an accident, it’s not just the driver who suffers—the passengers suffer too,” he stated.
Anwar stressed the importance of wisdom in every utterance and decision. According to him, this is to prevent sparking disturbances in society.
“Therefore, wisdom and prudence are needed from all of us, as advised earlier, to ensure that what we say, do, and decide does not cause disturbances anywhere,” he added.
