Mitsubishi introduces new van in Indonesia
Deutsche Presse-Agentur, Tokyo
Indonesians will soon have a chance to test a new multi-purpose
car, the Maven, Mitsubishi Motors Corp. announced on Friday.
Mitsubishi said it will begin selling the Maven in Indonesia
next Thursday. The van will be assembled by Suzuki Motor's
factory there on an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) basis
and sold by Mitsubishi's local distributor, P.T. Krama Yudha Tiga
Berlian Motors.
The Maven is quipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine produced
by Mitsubishi's local engine production partner, P.T. Mitsubishi
Krama Yudha Motors and Manufacturing.
The body of the van is an APV model, which is produced by
Suzuki's local subsidiary, with a slightly different exterior
design.
While Suzuki sets its OEM production volume to a maximum of
12,000 vehicles per year, Mitsubishi plans to purchase about
20,000 units a year.
Having suffered recent recalls, Mitsubishi is trying to expand
its production lineup on an OEM supply and is also focusing its
development resources on global strategic automobiles. Mitsubishi
stopped production of minivans, sedans and other models in
Indonesia in June.
