The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has prohibited around 9,000 bus fleets from operating following safety inspections (ramp checks) conducted during the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah transportation period. The Directorate General of Land Transportation under Kemenhub recorded that ramp checks have been performed on 60,946 bus units from 23 February to 23 March 2026. From this total, 9,000 bus units were declared unfit for operation, including 1,941 units for administrative violations and 7,131 units for major technical violations. “Receiving fines and operational bans for administrative violations total 1,941 units or 3.18 percent, and operational bans for major technical violations total 7,131 units or 11.70 percent,” explained the Director General of Land Transportation, Aan Suhanan, in his statement on Tuesday (24/3/2026). Meanwhile, 38,758 bus units or 63.59 percent were declared roadworthy and permitted to operate. Additionally, 13,116 units or 21.52 percent received improvement warnings for supporting technical violations. Besides vehicle inspections, Kemenhub also conducted health checks on bus drivers. Of the 683 drivers examined, 634 individuals or 92.83 percent were declared healthy and fit to drive. “Meanwhile, 40 individuals or 5.86 percent are fit to drive with notes, and 9 drivers were declared unfit to drive,” he said. From 34 vehicles inspected at the location, 18 units were declared roadworthy, while the other 16 units received improvement warnings for supporting technical violations. Aan revealed several violations found, including inactive or absent BLU-e devices, as well as inactive or unavailable Supervision Cards (KPS). “Vehicles declared not meeting technical and/or administrative aspects include two vehicles with inactive BLU-e, three vehicles without BLU-e, three vehicles with inactive KPS, and 13 vehicles without KPS,” he stated. Aan also urged all bus operators not to operate fleets that do not meet technical or administrative requirements, and to ensure drivers remain in prime condition.
