The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has sealed Umang Island in Pandeglang Regency, Banten, after the island went viral for being listed for sale at Rp 65 billion. It was also revealed that the operator has not obtained the required permits from KKP.

Citing detikFinance, Director General of Marine Spatial Management Pung Nugroho Saksono stated that they have investigated the viral sale of Umang Island for Rp 65 billion. Based on the examination, the man familiarly known as Ipunk said that Umang Island is managed by an individual.

“We found on social media that there was a sale of Umang Island. How can an island be sold? So the state is present there. Yesterday afternoon we sealed it again, and the examination results showed that the island is owned by an individual,” Ipunk said during a press conference at his office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (15/4/2026).

From the investigation, it was stated that the operator never posted or collaborated with other parties to sell the island.

“We will conduct further in-depth investigation into the regulations and ownership. It must not be advertised outside. Then parties who exploit it. Especially foreigners, this is dangerous,” added Ipunk.

Ipunk also revealed that the operator does not hold permits from KKP. Ipunk mentioned that the resort and marine tourism business activities on Umang Island are operated without the Approval of Conformity for Marine Spatial Utilisation Activities (PKKPRL) document, recommendations for the utilisation of small islands, and water tourism permits.

“We do not favour anyone. We do not tolerate violations, especially on small islands. The state has rules here where the management of small islands must not be arbitrary,” he added.

Director of Marine Resources Supervision at KKP, Sumono Darwinto, asked the operator to be cooperative and complete the required documents.

“This process will continue to be closely monitored to ensure that every activity utilising marine space around Umang Island runs in accordance with legal corridors,” Sumono said.
