Ministry of Hajj Ensures Fulfilment of Proxy Hajj Rights for Pilgrims Who Died in the Holy Land
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj) of the Republic of Indonesia has ensured that the proxy Hajj rights for all Hajj pilgrims who passed away in the Holy Land will be fulfilled. Ministry spokesperson Maria Assegaff stated that a total of seven pilgrims have died, most due to heart attacks and pneumonia. “The Hajj Organising Committee (PPIH) ensures that all deceased pilgrims will receive their proxy Hajj rights. Our best prayers are offered so that all the late pilgrims attain a good end,” Maria said in her statement on Monday (4/5/2026). Maria advised pilgrims to increase vigilance regarding their health conditions amid the weather in Mecca, which is expected to reach 43 degrees Celsius. If experiencing health issues, pilgrims should immediately report to the on-duty officers at the location. “Hajj officers are also on standby to provide assistance whenever pilgrims face challenges in the field,” Maria added. Maria emphasised that the government is giving special attention to vulnerable groups, including the elderly, disabled individuals, and women during the 2026 Hajj implementation. “We are providing various service conveniences, including the Bus Sholawat which operates 24 hours with a fleet friendly to the elderly and disabled,” she added. This service connects Indonesian pilgrims from and to Masjidil Haram via three main points: Jiad Terminal (Ajyad), Jabal Ka’bah, and Syib Amir. “A total of 452 vehicles are prepared to serve pilgrims non-stop, including 52 hydraulic buses that are friendly to the elderly and disabled,” she said. The Bus Sholawat serves 21 routes differentiated by colour codes and numbers, and is supported by a route guide card that every pilgrim must carry.
