Ministry of Creative Economy supports expansion of photography product market
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Creative Economy is committed to supporting efforts to enhance the capacity of photographers and expand the market for Indonesian photography products. Upon receiving an audience from representatives of PT Benih Kreasi Indonesia at the Ministry of Creative Economy office in Jakarta on Monday (11/5), Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar stated that the photography business has the potential to become a flagship subsector of the creative economy. “Therefore, we will continue to support spaces and collaborative activities that can accommodate communities, associations, and photographers to move together in building a stronger and more sustainable ecosystem,” she said, as quoted in the ministry’s press release on Tuesday. She emphasised the importance of strengthening photographers’ capacity and improving copyright protection for photographic works to address challenges arising from technological developments, including the use of artificial intelligence. In addition, she continued, increased collaboration and promotional efforts are needed to expand the reach of the Indonesian photography product market. “The most important thing is how we enlarge the market and open wider access for Indonesian photographers,” she said. “The government wants the photography subsector not only to develop domestically but also to perform and compete at the international level through collaboration, promotion, and strengthening professional standards,” she added. “What is needed now is a system that can help them grow, gain recognition, be protected, and have access to broader economic opportunities,” said Lucia. To support the growth of the photography business, Benih Kreasi Indonesia has initiated the Indonesia Photography Summit to bring together government representatives, creators, communities, and institutions in a forum for discussions, workshops, expert meetings, and a bazaar. “The Indonesia Photography Summit is expected to become a collaborative space to build a healthier and more sustainable photography ecosystem,” said Lucia.
