Upon receiving an\naudience from representatives of PT Benih Kreasi Indonesia at the\nMinistry of Creative Economy office in Jakarta on Monday (11\/5), Deputy\nMinister of Creative Economy Irene Umar stated that the photography\nbusiness has the potential to become a flagship subsector of the\ncreative economy. \u201cTherefore, we will continue to support spaces and\ncollaborative activities that can accommodate communities, associations,\nand photographers to move together in building a stronger and more\nsustainable ecosystem,\u201d she said, as quoted in the ministry\u2019s press\nrelease on Tuesday. She emphasised the importance of strengthening\nphotographers\u2019 capacity and improving copyright protection for\nphotographic works to address challenges arising from technological\ndevelopments, including the use of artificial intelligence. In addition,\nshe continued, increased collaboration and promotional efforts are\nneeded to expand the reach of the Indonesian photography product market.\n\u201cThe most important thing is how we enlarge the market and open wider\naccess for Indonesian photographers,\u201d she said. \u201cThe government wants\nthe photography subsector not only to develop domestically but also to\nperform and compete at the international level through collaboration,\npromotion, and strengthening professional standards,\u201d she added. \u201cWhat\nis needed now is a system that can help them grow, gain recognition, be\nprotected, and have access to broader economic opportunities,\u201d said\nLucia.
