Minister of Environment Hopes Pekanbaru Will Implement RDF Technology to Address Waste Issues
We see that this model has been successfully implemented in various other regions. We hope a similar system can be quickly realised in Pekanbaru to accelerate the energy transition based on waste management.
Pekanbaru, (ANTARA) - The Minister of Environment (LH) M. Jumhur Hidayat assesses there is potential for sustainable waste development at the Final Waste Disposal Site (TPA) Sampah 2 Muara Fajar in Pekanbaru City, Riau Province.
Jumhur conveyed the opportunity for processing plastic waste through the reuse concept as well as the application of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) technology. This technology is considered a strategic solution because it can transform waste into an alternative fuel replacing coal, thereby directly reducing carbon emissions and the environmental pollution burden.
“We see that this model has been successfully implemented in various other regions. We hope a similar system can be quickly realised in Pekanbaru to accelerate the energy transition based on waste management,” said Environment Minister Jumhur at the Muara Fajar TPA in Pekanbaru on Tuesday.
As a concrete step, Jumhur stated that his side will soon conduct intensive coordination with experts and specialists experienced in converting waste into energy. This effort is aimed at ensuring the technical planning to be implemented in Pekanbaru.
“We encourage this processing to be realised optimally in a short time. We will strengthen cross-sectoral coordination so that technical obstacles in the field can be quickly resolved,” said the Environment Minister.
Currently, there are still stages of technical improvements such as the cut and fill process and the completion of administrative documents, but the development commitment remains on track as planned.
“We continue to coordinate with related ministries for the completion of permits and technical recommendations so that this TPA truly provides great benefits to the community,” he said.
