MHU Launches Equivalency Education Programme A, B and C to Empower Kutai Mining Area Communities
PT Multi Harapan Utama (MHU), part of MMS Resources, has realised its commitment to community empowerment in education through the Equivalency Education Programme A, B and C held in the Kutai Kartanegara Regency mining area, East Kalimantan.
President Director of PT Multi Harapan Utama, Kemal Djamil Siregar, said education is a crucial foundation for creating sustainable social impact in the company’s operational areas.
‘For MHU, operational success must go hand in hand with improving the quality of life for communities,’ Kemal stated on Thursday, 28 May 2026.
He explained that the equivalency education and scholarship programme is not merely social assistance, but a long-term investment to open access, opportunities, and a better future for communities around MHU’s operational areas.
‘We believe education is a key to unlocking broader opportunities and creating a more independent and competitive society,’ he added.
He noted that since its inception in 2019, the programme has helped 869 residents obtain equivalency certificates, with 212 graduates securing employment across various companies and business sectors.
‘Given this impact, MHU has been recognised for delivering tangible social benefits through enhanced education access and economic opportunities for communities,’ he said.
With this dedication, PT Multi Harapan Utama received the Indonesia Best CSR Awards 2026, organised by The Iconomics. The award was presented at an event held at the Aneka Bhakti Building, Ministry of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Jakarta, on Thursday, 21 May 2025, under the theme ‘CSR Transformation: Corporate Adaptation Amid the New Direction of President Prabowo Subianto’s Government.’
The programme originated from MHU’s social mapping showing high dropout rates in the Ring 1 operational area. Out of approximately 52,000 residents across 10 villages, around 34% had not completed formal education.
To address this challenge, MHU, in collaboration with PKBM Puteri Karang Melenu in Loa Kulu District, introduced the equivalency education programme as part of long-term community development efforts.
