Man Posing as Policeman Allegedly Hypnotises Motorcycle Taxi Driver and Steals Bike at Petrol Station in East Jakarta
JAKARTA – A motorcycle taxi driver became the victim of alleged hypnotism by a man claiming to be a police officer at a petrol station in the Makasar area of East Jakarta.
The incident occurred on Friday, 27 February 2026 at approximately 21:30. Information was provided by petrol station security officer Agus Sunarya (50), who was present at the location when the incident took place. As a result of the incident, the victim’s motorcycle was taken by the suspect.
According to Agus, the suspect arrived at the petrol station with the victim by riding double on the victim’s motorcycle.
Agus stated that he attempted to verify the identity of the alleged suspect by contacting his supervisor and the local neighbourhood chief. However, when he made the telephone call, the suspect and victim suddenly left the location.
“After I called the neighbourhood chief, it was only a short time before the suspect and victim left, they were gone. After that I didn’t know anything more,” said Agus.
He emphasised that the suspect arrived alone and rode double with the victim. However, regarding the suspect’s claim to be a police officer, Agus could not confirm its veracity.
“I don’t really know if he was a real police officer or not, what’s clear is that there was one suspect, riding double with the victim,” he explained.
The following day, Saturday, 28 February 2026, the victim returned to the petrol station to ask the security officer about the whereabouts of the suspect.
“He told me that he had been hypnotised and his motorcycle was taken by the suspect. So it was taken to the Kramat Jati area,” he said.
Based on information received by Agus from the victim, the suspect initially used the victim’s motorcycle taxi service from the area in front of Pinang Ranti Terminal.
“According to the information, the suspect was a customer who boarded from in front of the asrama haji terminal, and according to the victim’s account, he was asked to take the suspect to Makasar Police Station and the suspect went in briefly, apparently to convince the victim that he was from the police,” he explained.
“Then after that they came to this petrol station. The victim said that after his motorcycle was taken, he was dazed for a moment and then only realised that the suspect had taken his motorcycle,” he added.
As of the publication of this report, no official statement has been issued by the police regarding the report and follow-up action regarding the incident.
