Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) has decided to provide comprehensive protection to the victim, witnesses and victim’s family in a caustic acid attack case against an activist from the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS).

The decision was made during a meeting of the LPSK Leadership Court (SMPL) on 16 March 2026, following the agency’s provision of emergency protection to the victim between 13 and 16 March 2026.

LPSK Chair Achmadi said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday that protection was being provided to guarantee the safety of all parties whilst ensuring legal proceedings proceed without pressure.

“On Monday, 16 March 2026, LPSK through the LPSK Leadership Court meeting decided to provide protection to the victim AY in the form of physical security through attached security, medical assistance facilitation and procedural rights fulfilment during legal proceedings,” Achmadi said.

He stated that protection was also provided to witnesses and the victim’s family in forms tailored to each person’s needs.

The victim’s protection includes attached security, medical assistance comprising regular care and procedural rights fulfilment during judicial proceedings. Witnesses receive guarantees of procedural rights fulfilment to enable them to testify safely.

The victim’s family receives protection in the form of procedural rights fulfilment, temporary living cost assistance and temporary accommodation or safe house facilities.

The protection programme is provided for six months from the signing of the protection agreement and can be extended according to needs and case development.

Achmadi stressed that this step forms part of the state’s commitment to guaranteeing the safety and rights fulfilment of witnesses and victims.

He said the caustic acid attack case against the activist was a serious incident that must be transparently investigated in accordance with legal provisions.

In handling the case, LPSK has also conducted an assessment of the threat level faced by the applicants and the victim’s recovery needs and support for affected families.

Achmadi stated that LPSK strongly condemns the caustic acid attack, which it considers a cruel and inhumane act.

“This action contradicts human rights principles and the Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment,” he said.

LPSK continues to coordinate with law enforcement officers and relevant agencies to ensure optimal protection whilst supporting the legal process.

LPSK has also appealed to members of the public who possess information relating to the incident to participate in the legal process, with a guarantee of protection for witnesses providing testimony.
