Jakarta (ANTARA) \u2014 The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK)\nhas decided to provide comprehensive protection to the victim, witnesses\nand victim\u2019s family in a caustic acid attack case against an activist\nfrom the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence\n(KontraS).<\/p>\n
The decision was made during a meeting of the LPSK Leadership Court\n(SMPL) on 16 March 2026, following the agency\u2019s provision of emergency\nprotection to the victim between 13 and 16 March 2026.<\/p>\n
LPSK Chair Achmadi said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday that\nprotection was being provided to guarantee the safety of all parties\nwhilst ensuring legal proceedings proceed without pressure.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn Monday, 16 March 2026, LPSK through the LPSK Leadership Court\nmeeting decided to provide protection to the victim AY in the form of\nphysical security through attached security, medical assistance\nfacilitation and procedural rights fulfilment during legal proceedings,\u201d\nAchmadi said.<\/p>\n
He stated that protection was also provided to witnesses and the\nvictim\u2019s family in forms tailored to each person\u2019s needs.<\/p>\n
The victim\u2019s protection includes attached security, medical\nassistance comprising regular care and procedural rights fulfilment\nduring judicial proceedings. Witnesses receive guarantees of procedural\nrights fulfilment to enable them to testify safely.<\/p>\n
The victim\u2019s family receives protection in the form of procedural\nrights fulfilment, temporary living cost assistance and temporary\naccommodation or safe house facilities.<\/p>\n
The protection programme is provided for six months from the signing\nof the protection agreement and can be extended according to needs and\ncase development.<\/p>\n
Achmadi stressed that this step forms part of the state\u2019s commitment\nto guaranteeing the safety and rights fulfilment of witnesses and\nvictims.<\/p>\n
He said the caustic acid attack case against the activist was a\nserious incident that must be transparently investigated in accordance\nwith legal provisions.<\/p>\n
In handling the case, LPSK has also conducted an assessment of the\nthreat level faced by the applicants and the victim\u2019s recovery needs and\nsupport for affected families.<\/p>\n
Achmadi stated that LPSK strongly condemns the caustic acid attack,\nwhich it considers a cruel and inhumane act.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis action contradicts human rights principles and the Convention\nAgainst Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or\nPunishment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
LPSK continues to coordinate with law enforcement officers and\nrelevant agencies to ensure optimal protection whilst supporting the\nlegal process.<\/p>\n
