The West Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jakbar), together with the Regional National Crafts Council (Dekranasda), is utilising products from local artisans as official souvenirs for government activities.

Dekranasda Jakarta Barat Chair Ety Syartika stated that this step represents practical support for local business actors in improving the quality and competitiveness of their products.

“It is hoped that the artisans will become increasingly independent, innovative, and capable of competing in the global market,” said Ety in Jakarta on Thursday.

Her side is also committed to enhancing the capacity of artisans through collaborations with various relevant sub-directorates.

“We are collaborating with the Sub-Directorate of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises (Sudin PPKUKM) for human resource capacity building and with the Sub-Directorate of Tourism and Creative Economy (Sudin Parekraf) Jakbar for marketing access. One of our flagship programmes is ‘Dekranasda Goes to Mall’, which is planned again in July,” Ety explained.

Meanwhile, Head of Sudin Parekraf Jakarta Barat Sherly said that marketing support has enabled several flagship West Jakarta products to penetrate international markets.

“Our products, such as Batik Gobang, have been marketed as far as Paris, Korea, and Kuala Lumpur. We continue to open opportunities for Dekranasda members to participate in workshops and exhibitions both domestically and abroad,” Sherly stated.

On the other hand, Head of Sudin PPKUKM Jakarta Barat Iqbal Idham Ramid highlighted the importance of developing soft skills and expanding marketing networks for business actors.

“The products of the artisans already have good quality. The current challenge is to expand marketing to the retail sector and build permanent partnerships with shopping centres,” Iqbal concluded.
