West Nusa Tenggara Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal stated that the Lebaran Topat tradition is not merely a customary ritual, but also a great potential for boosting the tourism sector in the Land of the Sasak people. “This is not just a tradition, but a spiritual reflection that strengthens the relationship between humans and God, and among fellow humans,” said Iqbal while attending the Lebaran Topat celebration in the Senggigi Amphitheatre area, West Lombok, on Saturday (29/3/2026). The Governor appreciated the consistency of the community and local government in preserving Lebaran Topat as a distinctive Sasak cultural identity. According to him, the celebration held every 8th of Syawal is not only the closing of the Eid al-Fitr series, but a moment full of meaning. The philosophy of ketupat with its four sides—Lebaran, Luberan, Leburan, and Labur—symbolises the perfection of worship, sincerity in sharing, mutual forgiveness, and a return to personal purity. Since morning, thousands of people crowded the Senggigi area wearing their best attire and carrying trays of ketupat and typical dishes. Domestic and international tourists also immersed themselves in the atmosphere, directly witnessing the unique tradition found only in Lombok. “Lebaran Topat is not just a customary celebration, but a cultural feast that fosters togetherness, strengthens identity, and serves as a flagship tourism magnet for NTB,” emphasised the Governor. West Lombok Regent Lalu Ahmad Zaini added that Lebaran Topat is an ancestral heritage that continues to live in the pulse of Sasak society. This year, the celebration was more vibrant with various cultural attractions, creative parades, traditional music accompaniments, and participation from tourism actors such as hotels and resorts in Senggigi, without losing the essence of the tradition.
