JAKARTA — Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has seized assets valued at more than Rp 100 billion in its investigation into the alleged corruption case involving the hajj quota administration for 2023–2024, which has ensnared former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas.

Asep Guntur Rahayu, Deputy for Prosecution and Execution at the KPK, stated that the asset seizure was carried out as part of efforts to recover state financial losses in the case.

“In this case, the KPK has seized assets valued at more than Rp 100 billion,” Asep said during a press conference at KPK headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday (12 March 2025).

Asep explained that the seized assets comprise cash in various currencies: USD 3.7 million, Rp 22 billion, and 16,000 Saudi riyals.

According to calculations by the State Audit Board (BPK), the state financial losses in the alleged hajj quota corruption case relating to Indonesia’s hajj administration for 2023–2024 reached Rp 622 billion.

The case has also undergone pre-trial proceedings at the South Jakarta District Court. However, the judge rejected all requests submitted by Yaqut’s legal team, thereby affirming that the KPK’s investigation process was legally valid.

Currently, Yaqut remains detained at KPK detention for further examination.
