Keeping the faith

Keeping the faith

From Pelita

The importance of being devout and afraid of God is deeply rooted in the Indonesian people. For example, when a person is appointed as a government official he or she must be a devout religious follower. Our education system also aims to produce people of integrity, having faith and devoutness.

During Friday prayers the preacher advises Moslems to always be devout to their religion. Being devout can be interpreted as following God's orders and avoiding His prohibitions. But this is easier said than done.

We often read or hear about corruption, collusion, conspiracy and people doing unlawful things. What a shame! Crime is also rampant. A group of criminals tries to deceive people by lying. Whether these bandits can change to become people of faith depends on their consciousness of what is likely to be punishment in the hereafter.

If we make promises, we should keep them. This also goes for campaigners who offered their programs and promised many things during the recent campaign. They should know that people will always remember what they have promised. If they keep their promises they will be blessed, but if they betray the people they will have to face the punishment hereafter.
