KDM Signs Agreement on Waste Management into Electricity Energy
West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, together with several regents and mayors in West Java (Jabar), conducted the signing of a Joint Agreement on Urban Waste Management through Environmentally Friendly Waste Processing Technology into Electricity Energy (PSEL).
The development of PSEL will be carried out at two locations in Jabar, namely the Sarimukti Final Disposal Site (TPA) in West Bandung Regency and Kayumanis Ward in Bogor City.
The PSEL at TPA Sarimukti will be utilised by the communities of Bandung City, Cimahi City, Bandung Regency, West Bandung Regency, Cianjur Regency, and Purwakarta Regency. Meanwhile, the Kayumanis Bogor PSEL will process waste from the communities of Bogor City and Depok City.
KDM, as Dedi Mulyadi is known, stated that this agreement represents a directive from the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, to resolve a long-standing acute problem.
“Following the President’s directive, we can solve an acute problem that has persisted for decades, consuming a vast budget,” said KDM in a written statement on Monday (13/4/2026).
This was conveyed by KDM at Menara Selatan, Plaza Kuningan, Jl. H.R. Rasuna Said Kav. C11-14, Karet Kuningan, Setiabudi, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (7/4).
Previously, the government had conducted study visits to several countries, such as Japan, China, and Germany, to address this issue.
“That was a supplementary proposal I made myself during the meeting. I view Sarimukti as an ideal location for managing waste into electricity energy. And today, we all agree that it will be managed by Danantara, and moving forward, our task at the regency and city levels,” explained KDM.
Subsequently, the Minister of Environment, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, stated that this agreement is one way to disseminate decisions from leaders at both central and provincial levels.
Hanif also expressed appreciation to the West Java Provincial Government and all regencies/cities for their very quick response in following up on President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to implement PSEL.
“The President, through Presidential Regulation No. 109 of 2025 on waste processing into electricity energy, has outlined that cities or urban agglomerations with waste accumulation exceeding 1,000 tons per day should be addressed through waste-to-energy technology approaches,” said Hanif.
Hanif hopes that after this signing, regional heads will promptly complete the necessary documents to proceed to the next stage.
“This agreement will serve as motivation for all that waste resolution is truly receiving serious attention from the President,” he concluded.
