Jakarta Int'l School's Project Week
Jakarta Int'l School's Project Week
The Project Week program for ninth graders at Jakarta
International School (JIS) -- now in its 11th year -- embraces
the concept of learning beyond the walls of the school, fostering
an increase in self-esteem and self-reliance through trips and
experiences that cannot be duplicated in the classroom.
Through this experience, students gain exposure to the unique
cultures of Asia, develop greater cultural sensitivity and
awareness, as well as a stronger sense of community.
Each travel destination seeks to engage the students in a
variety of physical and social challenges, and aims to provide
them with experiences they would not generally engage in when
traveling with their parents.
Trip sponsors also link elements of their trip to the
community service component of the High School co-curricular
program. Academic expectations also apply, and English and Social
Studies teachers set authentic tasks linked to the travel
experiences of their students.
