Jakarta Int'l School's Project Week<\/p>\n
The Project Week program for ninth graders at Jakarta
\nInternational School (JIS) -- now in its 11th year -- embraces
\nthe concept of learning beyond the walls of the school, fostering
\nan increase in self-esteem and self-reliance through trips and
\nexperiences that cannot be duplicated in the classroom.<\/p>\n
Through this experience, students gain exposure to the unique
\ncultures of Asia, develop greater cultural sensitivity and
\nawareness, as well as a stronger sense of community.<\/p>\n
Each travel destination seeks to engage the students in a
\nvariety of physical and social challenges, and aims to provide
\nthem with experiences they would not generally engage in when
\ntraveling with their parents.<\/p>\n
Trip sponsors also link elements of their trip to the
\ncommunity service component of the High School co-curricular
\nprogram. Academic expectations also apply, and English and Social
\nStudies teachers set authentic tasks linked to the travel
\nexperiences of their students.<\/p>\n
