The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI Jakarta) is preparing tax incentives for the film industry as part of efforts to realise Jakarta as a Cinema City. This policy is expected to encourage the growth of national film production while attracting more creative industry activities to the capital.

Head of the Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda), Lusiana Herawati, stated that the incentives to support the film industry are currently in the preparation stage, both in terms of regulations and institutions.

“Indeed, as part of supporting Jakarta Cinema City, we are preparing the regulations along with finalising the institutions,” said Lusiana at Jakarta City Hall on Friday (17/4/2026).

She explained that these tax incentives will later be given to film producers as a stimulus to increase domestic film production.

“If everything is ready, we will implement incentives for film producers so that domestic film production can develop further,” she said.

This policy forms part of the Jakarta Provincial Government’s strategy to develop the creative economy sector, particularly the film industry, which is considered to have great potential for the city’s economy.

Previously, the Jakarta Provincial Government held a focus group discussion (FGD) on incentives for the film industry on Tuesday (10/3) at Jakarta City Hall. This event is part of the Provincial Government’s efforts to strengthen the creative industry ecosystem, particularly the film sector, while promoting Jakarta as a city friendly to film production.

The FGD was directly led by the Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Rano Karno, and attended by Jakarta Provincial Government officials as well as national film industry players. In this forum, various parties discussed the needs for policy support, licensing facilitation, and incentive schemes that can drive film production growth in Jakarta.

“Through this discussion, the Jakarta Provincial Government hopes to formulate strategic steps to strengthen Jakarta’s position as a creative industry centre, particularly in filmmaking, through the Jakarta Cinema City programme,” stated the Jakarta Culture Agency (Disbud) on its Instagram account @disbuddki.

“In addition to providing a dialogue space between the government and industry players, this FGD is also expected to produce policy recommendations that can enhance the competitiveness of the film industry while opening economic opportunities and jobs for the community,” it added.
