Insurance Agents Required to Have QR Code, OJK Chief Explains Rationale
Jakarta — Insurance agents are now required by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to use QR codes to verify their legitimacy. Consumers can scan the barcode to ensure the agent is registered in the OJK’s Integrated Licensing and Registration System (SPRINT).
Ogi Prastomiyono, Head of the OJK’s Insurance, Guarantees, and Pension Funds Supervisory Executive, stated that as of 31 January 2026, a total of 304,950 insurance agents have been registered with the OJK and possess QR codes as official agent identification. This encompasses agents in the life insurance, general insurance, and Islamic insurance sectors.
“The implementation of this policy is proceeding well with support from industry associations and insurance companies in the process of socialising with agents and the public,” Ogi said in a written statement.
The OJK, together with associations, continues to evaluate and improve the system to ensure that the agent registration and verification process operates effectively and transparently.
Based on data from January 2026, the agent distribution channel and bancassurance remain the primary contributors to insurance premiums, accounting for approximately 22.09% (agency) and 26.21% (bancassurance) respectively of total life insurance premiums across all distribution channels.
Going forward, both channels are expected to remain the primary sources of industry premium growth in 2026. The bancassurance channel has the potential for relatively stable growth owing to the strong customer base of banks and the integration of financial services, whilst the agency channel still has opportunities for growth through improved agent productivity and expanded penetration of protection products in the community.
