Inspection of Permanent People's School in Lampung, Gus Ipul: Target Completion in June
Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf, or Gus Ipul, inspected the construction of the permanent People’s School for Lampung Province in South Lampung Regency on Sunday (26/4/2026). He is optimistic that the project is progressing according to schedule and can be used in the 2026/2027 academic year.
The People’s School is part of a programme to build 104 permanent schools in various regions, initiated under the direction of President Prabowo Subianto. In its implementation, the land is prepared by the Lampung Provincial Government, while the construction process is handled by the Ministry of Public Works with funding from the state budget.
“I am grateful and pleased that the construction here is going well, with the target to finish in June,” said Gus Ipul in his statement on Sunday (26/4/2026).
To meet this target, the construction is supported by around 600 workers at each site. Nationally, approximately 60,000 workers are involved in building more than 100 locations for permanent People’s Schools.
The government is also continuing to promote expanded access to quality education through this programme. After the number of students nearly reached 16,000 last year, the government targets adding more than 30,000 students in 2026, bringing the total to over 45,000 students.
“Next year, it will add another 60,000, meaning more than 100,000, and in 2027, insyaallah, it will add more than 90,000 students. So by 2028, there will be more than 200,000 students participating in teaching and learning activities at People’s Schools,” he said.
In the future, the government targets having one permanent People’s School building in every regency. If the land is prepared by the regency/city government, the school will prioritise students from that area. Meanwhile, if the land is provided by the provincial government, the students can come from various regencies/cities within the province.
Gus Ipul reiterated his optimism that the construction in Lampung can be completed on time so that teaching and learning activities can begin soon.
“As of today, it is still on target and expected to finish in June,” he said.
Meanwhile, the construction of the Kotabaru People’s School in Purwotani Village, Jati Agung Subdistrict, South Lampung, continues to show progress. As of now, the physical achievement has reached 35.52 percent.
This project, built on a 95,478 square metre plot, is being worked on for 188 calendar days, starting from 15 December 2025 and targeted to be completed on 20 June 2026. A total of 677 workers are involved in the construction process.
Overall, this school has a building area of 29,991 square metres with a building base area of 17,804 square metres, as well as an open area of 77,674 square metres. The area is designed with a building base coefficient of 18.65 percent, a building area of 0.31 percent, and green open space reaching 69.56 percent. The construction is also divided into five zones to ensure effective implementation.
Once completed, this permanent People’s School is targeted to accommodate 1,080 students in 36 classes, with a capacity of 30 students per class, from primary school, junior high school to senior high school levels.
