Indonesia's Foreign Ministry: West Bank Annexation Violates International Law
Jakarta — Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry has reaffirmed that the appropriation of Palestinian West Bank territory by Israeli settlers constitutes a violation of international law.
“At the UN Security Council meeting on 18 February, Indonesia’s Foreign Minister condemned the annexation in the West Bank as a form of violation of international law, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 2334,” said Foreign Ministry spokesman Yvonne Elizabeth Mewengkang during a press conference at the Foreign Ministry office in Pejambon, Central Jakarta, on Friday (27 February 2026).
“There is no change in Indonesia’s position in this context. Indonesia continues to regard the expansion of settlements as a violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions,” Mewengkang added.
Indonesia’s current position on the UN Security Council is intended to maximise efforts towards realising peace in Palestine.
According to news agency Wafa, on Monday (23 February 2026), attackers vandalised the walls of the Abu Bakr as-Siddiq Mosque with racial inscriptions. Israeli settlers damaged and set fire to the mosque in the West Bank during the Ramadhan month.
The mosque is located between the towns of Sarra and Tal, near Nablus in the northern West Bank. Israeli settlers even spray-painted graffiti with insults directed at Prophet Muhammad on the mosque’s walls.
Israel has claimed that its occupation of the West Bank is an acceptable course of action.
Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry has condemned a statement made by the US Ambassador to Israel. The Foreign Ministry issued this condemnation through a joint statement released with the foreign ministries of Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Lebanon, Syria and Palestine, as well as the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) secretariat, the Arab League (LNA), and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
“Expressing strong condemnation and deep concern over the statement by the United States Ambassador to Israel, which indicates that Israeli actions to take over territories belonging to Arab states, including the occupied West Bank, are acceptable,” the joint statement read.
