Indonesian Navy Despatches Students and Undergraduates for Intensive Islamic Retreat Aboard Naval Vessel
Jakarta — The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) has despatched secondary school students, Islamic boarding school pupils, and university undergraduates to participate in an intensive Islamic retreat aboard the Indonesian Navy Warship (KRI) Semarang 594, departing from the Naval Command Port (Kolinlamil) in North Jakarta on Wednesday.
The Navy organised this programme to develop the character of young Indonesians, fostering religious devotion, love of country, and dignity.
The Commander of the Navy Staff (KSAL), Admiral Muhammad Ali, stated at a press conference at Kolinlamil in North Jakarta that the activity was timed to coincide with the occasion of Ramadhan 1447 Hijriah.
“The participants total approximately 400 people, consisting of secondary school students, university undergraduates, youth from mosques, and members of religious organisations based in the Jakarta-Bogor-Depok region,” Ali said.
Ali explained that the activity would run for three days, from 11 March 2026 to 13 March 2026.
During the three-day voyage across Jakarta Bay, participants will engage in several activities including listening to religious lectures, performing Tarawih prayers, performing Tahajud prayers, studying religious history, and attending religious study sessions.
In carrying out the programme, Ali continued, the Navy involved several parties, including the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and the National Zakat Board (Baznas).
The Navy Commander ensured that the programme would continue throughout Ramadhan and be implemented across all Navy command headquarters.
“We have not yet implemented this type of programme in other cities, but it is possible that our naval bases and regional commands will carry out similar initiatives on a smaller scale in their respective areas,” Ali said.
