Indonesia upholds free active policy in US trade and investment ties
Deputy Investment and Downstreaming Minister Todotua Pasaribu said Indonesia continues to maintain communication with various countries, including the United States, to strengthen economic and investment ties.
“We adhere to that principle. Trade and other cooperation are conducted under a free and active policy. With the US and other partners, it is necessary to keep communication open,” Pasaribu said.

He stressed that such engagement does not undermine Indonesia’s sovereignty in setting national policies, adding that independence remains central to all international partnerships.
“Our government’s sovereignty remains intact. There is no interference. Our president has made that clear,” he said.
Pasaribu reiterated that expanding trade and investment cooperation does not translate into external influence over Indonesia’s economic decisions.
“Our independence is our own matter. There is no interference. However, communication in trade and investment must remain open,” he added.
He said broader international engagement is aimed at improving Indonesia’s investment climate and sharpening its economic cooperation strategies to enhance competitiveness.
On the relaxation of Domestic Component Level (TKDN) requirements for several US companies, Pasaribu said the move forms part of the government’s broader strategic approach and would not significantly affect domestic investment.
“It is part of a strategic policy. Some requirements are being relaxed,” he said.
He expressed confidence in Indonesia’s investment outlook despite global uncertainty.
“We have strong confidence when it comes to investment,” Pasaribu said.
