Indonesia Offers 116 Oil and Gas Working Areas to Global Investors
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is opening 116 new oil and gas blocks. The offering is aimed at global investors to encourage oil and gas production.
“The Government is also pursuing several strategic steps to achieve the production targets, including opening 116 new oil and gas blocks for global investors through the oil and gas working area offering, as well as opening technological and operational collaborations in existing working areas through Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation No. 14 of 2025,” said Director General of Oil and Gas Laode Sulaeman in an official statement in Jakarta on Friday (25/4/2026).
The major discovery at the Geliga Well in the Ganal Block is one of the supports. This field is estimated to contain 5 trillion cubic feet of gas and 300 million barrels of condensate.
Laode emphasised the commitment to maintaining national energy sovereignty. Global geopolitical pressures are driving the acceleration of strategic steps.
The Government is also preparing mitigation measures following disruptions to global energy routes. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the crucial points for Indonesia’s oil supply.
“Currently, the mitigation measures that the Government has taken include diversification of energy imports, optimisation of domestic supplies and biofuels, improvement of refinery performance, strengthening of bilateral cooperation, and efficient fuel or LPG consumption policies,” said Laode.
Efforts to attract investment are being carried out through regulatory reforms. The Government is providing flexibility in contract schemes between gross split and cost recovery.
Fiscal incentives are also adjusted according to the field risk profile. The permitting process is accelerated through Government Regulation No. 28 of 2025.
Laode assessed that Indonesia has strong appeal in the upstream oil and gas sector. Vast resources are combined with open investment opportunities.
“Reforms are ongoing. Opportunities are available. The Government invites investors to be part of the next chapter of Indonesia in the upstream oil and gas sector,” said Laode.
