President Prabowo Subianto has reaffirmed that Indonesia will not join any military alliance. Indonesia consistently implements its principle of free and active foreign policy, in accordance with the 1945 Constitution, which stipulates non-alignment with any power bloc whilst actively promoting world peace.

“We cannot be part of any military alliance,” said Prabowo in an exclusive interview with Bloomberg published under the headline “Prabowo Open to Breach Indonesia Deficit Cap Only During Crisis,” as cited by Republika in Jakarta on Monday, 16 March 2026.

According to him, Indonesia stands on its own feet and does not depend on the strength of other nations. Therefore, Indonesia must build strong defence capabilities. “When something happens, we cannot depend on anyone,” said Prabowo.

He explained that Indonesia maintains good relations with all neighbouring countries and maintains a defensive military posture. Regarding Indonesia’s involvement in the Board of Peace (BoP), established by the United States, Prabowo reiterated that Indonesia’s objective is Palestinian independence through a two-state solution.

“If we are in it (BoP), we can still influence and work towards a long-term solution, which we believe is an independent Palestine and a two-state solution,” said Prabowo.
