Indonesia and Seven Nations Condemn Israel's Closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque During Ramadhan
Foreign Ministers from the Republic of Turkey, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Republic of Indonesia, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the State of Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates have condemned the Israeli occupation authorities for continuing to close the gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque, also known as Al-Haram Al-Sharif, to Muslim worshippers, particularly during the holy month of Ramadhan.
“Security restrictions on access to the Old City of Jerusalem and places of worship within it, coupled with discriminatory and arbitrary restrictions on access to other places of worship in the Old City, constitute a blatant violation of international law,” the ministers stated in a joint statement received on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
The closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque also violates international humanitarian law, the historical and legal status applicable to the site, and the principle of unimpeded access to places of worship.
The ministers emphasised their complete rejection and condemnation of such illegal and unjustifiable actions, as well as Israel’s continued provocative acts at Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif against worshippers.
They stressed that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or over the Islamic and Christian holy sites within the territory.
