Idul Fitri menus on offer

YOGYAKARTA: Restaurants in the ancient city of Yogyakarta will open for businesses as usual during Idul Fitri, or Lebaran as it is popularly called, on Nov. 25 and Nov. 26.

Mlangi Resto on Jl. Ring Road Barat, Nogotirto, for example, will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Nov. 25, offering a Lebaran set menu consisting of Lontong Opor Ayam (compressed rice cakes served with chicken curry) with Sambal Goreng Ati (spicy sweet sauteed chicken liver), Telur Pindang (seasoned boiled egg) and prawn crackers.

"We will also introduce some new dishes during the celebration," said Mlangi Resto marketing executive Dian Eka P., adding that the Lebaran set menu is priced from Rp 29,900 ++ per person, while the new dishes are priced from Rp 15,900 ++ each. The new dishes will include Sop Buntut Daun Kedondong (oxtail soup cooked with kedondong leaves), Soto Mie (noodle soup) a la Solo, Lodeh Rebung (mixed bamboo shoot soup with coconut milk) and Melon Sago.

Five-star hotels are also promoting Lebaran menus. At the Kemangi Bistro and Poolside restaurants of Yogyakarta Hyatt Regency, for example, a Gema Takbir Buffet Dinner will be available on the eve of Idul Fitri for Rp 129,000++ per person. On Nov. 25 and 26, Kemangi Bistro will provide a Ketupat Buffet Brunch for Rp 99,000 per person from 11.30 a.m. In the evening, guests may enjoy the Saman and Lilin dance performance while they select their meals from the Lebaran Buffet Dinner at Rp 139,000++ per person.

Among the buffet dishes are Kambing Guling (grilled lamb served with soy and peanut sauce), Sayur Labu Siam (chayotes stew), Nasi Goreng Kare (fried rice with curry sauce), and various traditional snacks and cakes.

Similarly, El Patio Coffee Shop of Yogyakarta Melia Purosani on Jl. Suryotomo is promoting their Ketupat Lebaran Buffet Dinner for Rp 90,000 net per adult, or Rp 50,000 net per child. The buffet will be available on Idul Fitri day from 6.30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Ketupat is a traditional way of cooking rice wrapped in coconut leaves. -- JP
